Default Selling accounts?

Is it me, or has there been an increase on the amount of people selling accounts for cash?
I see people advertising all the time that they sell accounts for in-game gold. Is this the equivalent to buying in-game cash on e-bay? Players buy GW access key then sell for GW money? Seems rather sad to me, or maybe I'm missing something?
If this is true, then why has it suddenly taken off?
And is this actually allowed by GW? I know people sell their time on e-bay to get around loop holes, is this similar?

Sorry about all the questions crammed into one, just interested.

I am guessing a scam, because I saw someone selling an account for 52 plat. Which is extremely cheap for a $50 game.

It isn't allowed by Anet because it goes against their Terms and Agreement, that you signed before installing the game, and the EULA.

I have never even attempted to buy an account, don't get the wrong idea Just seen it advertised, so they're all scamming? Here its like £29 so yea it sounds cheap, should I take screen shots and report any I see? If it becomes common then people will either fall into the trap or join in the scammers.

It's not even a good idea to try buying an account from some complete stranger in-game. You have to trust them to actually give you the account after you pay them...which they most likely won't.

In forge many people are selling accounts, so I PM each one saying " selling accounts is illegal and against the rules, screenshot and sent to a.net", the spamming stops.

Many people are selling the accounts for 20 k, which is a complete scam as you can see. People thinking they will actually get the account, but in the end just lost ammount of gold.

Steps of the scam:

1) Seller-Person spams Wants to sell Account for xxx gold.
2) Buyer-Second person agrees to buy.
3) Seller- Says give half of the ammount he will give the account.
4) Seller- Says give half ammount and he will give password.
5) Buyer- Buyer gets both account and password, and either of this occurs.

A) Account is banned.

B) Account can't be used.

C) Account is a fake.

6) Buyer- If account WORKED, and the buyer was able to login onto the account okay.
7) Seller- Than does a EMAIL-RETRIVAL and gets the new password the buyer changed it to.

8) DON'T BUY ACCOUNTS FROM STRANGERS. JUST DON'T.

You lost your gold when you submitted offer. A.net won't refund your loss.

It's a nice personal trait to have around. But whenever you log on to Guild Wars you need to totally throw your ability to trust strangers in the bucket until you log off. Always be a skeptic when buying/selling things.

There was a time that I saw someone 'selling' their account for in-game gold/plat at least once every time I logged in. I find it completely ridiculous. Even if it is legit, why would someone do this? Makes no sense. They're obviously not giving up playing GW, cause they're asking for gold/plat. If it's an extra account or a friends, just give it to someone else or use it yourself for farming. Logic fails me on this one.

Another thing I tend to see frequently is people 'trading' their GW account for a different game or MMO account, or vice-versa. I guess if it can be done, it will. I'm sure there's a bit of scamming involved in each and every one of these deals, so I would just suggest ignoring or reporting these stupid offers whenever you see them.

I have all local messages turned off. All this is completely invisible for me. In order to get rid of all the spam, I have to completely shut myself off from a large part of the game. I don't even accept random invitations to open a trade window. I have learned my lessons in my Diablo days.
People will exploit any trade hack possible, and they WILL scam you, if you give them the chance.

That doesn't mean they will suspend him/her, belive it I reported a guy many times for diffrent incidents and yet hes still on. Save the person to your list, but when you still see him still signed on, don't go report crazy.

I don't understand why people seem to go out of their way to spoil games for others, I mean seriously, I can earn 40k farming in a few hours, yet these guys have to scam and cheat other people to do this, they really must have no life.

off topic but, If i was to buy a second account.
let's say from best buy. or from a friend. once i
have it installed. would it act as one whole acount?
meaning will i have a total of 4 more slots. or will it
be the same as having one account. only 4 slots.
the reason why i'm asking is cause i don't have any
more storage space.

You don't "install" additional CD keys. If you add the exact same CD key to an existing account, it won't do anything. You can create another account with a new CD key, which requires you to use a different e-mail account for it. The only way to get more characters on the same account is through the Prophecies/Factions linking.
